Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about plays, playbooks, quizzes, rosters, and everything else in Chalk Talk HQ.

Getting Started

What are the different parts of Chalk Talk HQ?+
  1. 1
The main app: Where you design plays, build playbooks and quizzes, manage your roster, plan practice, and script games.
  2. 2
Game Time: A separate sideline app for live tracking during a game — snap counts, play log, defensive series, and self-scouting. Opens from the sidebar.
  3. 3
Film Room: A separate app for drawing over game film while you narrate, then saving the breakdown to your team's Film Library. Also opens from the sidebar.
What is the Getting Started checklist on my dashboard?+
  1. 1
Follow the steps: A checklist on your dashboard walks you through the core setup: create your first play, build a playbook, add athletes, and publish to your team.
  2. 2
It tracks itself: Each step checks off automatically as you complete it — there's nothing to mark done by hand.
  3. 3
Collapse or dismiss: Collapse it to get it out of the way, or dismiss it entirely. It disappears on its own once every step is done.
What are the four tabs on the login page for?+
  1. 1
Sign Up: Start a brand-new team as head coach — you'll name your organization here.
  2. 2
Sign In: Return to an existing coaching account with your email and password, or use Continue with Google (or Sign in with Apple on iOS).
  3. 3
Athlete: Athletes enter their name plus your Athlete Access Code — no email, no password, no account to create.
  4. 4
Join Staff: Assistant coaches and team managers sign up here with your Staff Access Code and pick their role.
What's on my dashboard?+
  1. 1
Team banner: Your branded headline and background image sit up top — the same banner your athletes see in Study Mode.
  2. 2
Stat tiles: At-a-glance counts for plays, playbooks, quizzes, and athletes. Each tile links straight to that section.
  3. 3
Where to Re-teach: Plays your team keeps missing on quizzes, ranked by miss rate (Coach and Program plans).
  4. 4
Recent activity: Your most recent plays and the latest quiz attempts from athletes, each with a View all link.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?+
  1. 1
Forgot password: On the Sign In tab, use the forgot-password link and enter the email on your account.
  2. 2
Check your email: Follow the reset link we send you and choose a new password of at least 8 characters.
  3. 3
Or use Google or Apple: If you originally signed up with Continue with Google or Sign in with Apple, sign in that way instead — there's no separate password to reset.

Select: Move players and routes, or drag a box around several at once to select a group.
  2. 2
Player / Route: Place personnel, then draw their routes.
  3. 3
Block / Motion / Zone: Blocking assignments, pre-snap motion, and shaded coverage areas.
  4. 4
Drop / Text / Erase: Drop marks the QB's dropback, Text adds a free-floating label anywhere on the field, and Erase removes individual items.

Block: Marks a blocking assignment for a player, shown as a solid line ending in a bar.
  2. 2
Motion: Marks pre-snap motion for a player, shown as a dashed line.
  3. 3
Zone: Draws a shaded zone-coverage area for a defensive player or area of the field.
How do I draw clean straight routes instead of wobbly freehand ones?+
  1. 1
Straight: With the Route tool active, turn on Straight in the style row to snap lines to 15° angles — or just hold Shift while you draw.
  2. 2
Dot: Turn on Dot to finish the route with a stop dot, the standard mark for a settle or sit-down route.
  3. 3
Route color: Pick a route color in the same row so first reads, checkdowns, and decoys read differently on the diagram.
How do I label a route or name a zone?+
  1. 1
Select the route: With the Select tool, click a route to bring up its controls.
  2. 2
Add a label: Type into the Label box — short tags like "1" or "SAIL" work best on a diagram.
  3. 3
Name a zone: Select a zone the same way and type into Zone Name (e.g. "Flat", "Hook/Curl").
How do I show defensive line techniques with different player shapes?+
  1. 1
Select the player: Click a placed player with the Select tool, then look at the SHAPE row.
  2. 2
Pick an alignment shape: Half-left is an inside-gap alignment, half-right is outside-gap, and filled is head-up — the standard way to diagram defensive line technique.
  3. 3
Other shapes: Box-X marks the center, and square, triangle, and X cover anything else you need to distinguish.
How do I add a blank token for a position that's not listed?+
  1. 1
Player tool → Blank shapes: Choose a blank circle, square, triangle, or X to freely label any position or role.
I placed a player on the wrong team — do I have to delete and redo it?+
  1. 1
Select the player: Click the player with the Select tool.
  2. 2
Switch Team: Click Switch Team in the player controls to flip it between offense and defense in place, keeping its position on the field.
  3. 3
Recolor if needed: Use the COLOR row to give a player a distinct token color — handy for highlighting one matchup.
How do I zoom in to work on tight line splits?+
  1. 1

  2. 2
Clear: Click Clear to remove everything from the canvas and start over.
  3. 3
Select All: Click Select All (or press Ctrl+A) to select every player and route at once, useful for moving or deleting a group.
The toolbar takes up too much room on my phone — can I shrink it?+
  1. 1
Collapse: Click the small arrow at the far left of the toolbar to collapse it down to just the tool buttons.
  2. 2
Expand: Click it again to bring back the full context rows for colors, shapes, and styles.
How do I work on a play in fullscreen?+
  1. 1
Fullscreen: Click the Fullscreen button at the right side of the canvas toolbar to expand the play editor. Click Exit (or press Esc) to leave fullscreen.
How do I show, hide, or move the line of scrimmage on a play?+
  1. 1
LOS: Click the line-of-scrimmage button in the canvas toolbar to toggle it on or off.
  2. 2
Move it to any yard: Drag the LOS line itself to set it at any yard line on the field, instead of a fixed spot — handy for diagramming red zone or backed-up situations exactly where they'd happen.
  3. 3
Saved per play: Your choice — on/off and position — is saved with the play, so it shows the same way every time you open it.
How do I switch the field view between Middle, Full, and Red Zone?+
  1. 1
Field scope: Use the field-scope control in the canvas toolbar to switch between Middle of the field, Full field, and Red Zone views.
  2. 2
Pick what fits the play: Middle is the default close-up view for most install work, Full shows sideline-to-sideline for special teams or long-developing plays, and Red Zone zooms into the scoring area with 5-yard lines and hash marks for tight-space diagramming.
  3. 3
Blank end zone option: Toggle the end zone to blank if you don't want the end-zone graphic competing with your diagram.
How do I share or download a single play as an image?+
  1. 1
Share/Download: From the Play Editor, use the share or download option to export the current play as a PNG image.
  2. 2
Good for texting or slides: A PNG is the quickest way to drop one play into a text message, a group chat, or a coaching slide deck — no need to export the whole playbook.
  3. 3
Whole playbook instead?: For a full JSON export or a printable PDF of many plays, see the backup/export and print topics below.
How do I flip a play and save a mirrored copy for the other side?+
  1. 1
Draw the play: Draw your play for one side of the field as usual, using the Player, Route, Block, Motion, and Zone tools.
  2. 2
Flip: Click the Flip button in the canvas toolbar to mirror every player, route, zone, and label horizontally (position labels like LT/RT and LG/RG swap automatically).
  3. 3
Save as Copy: Click Save as Copy at the top of the editor to save the flipped version as a new play, so you keep both the original and the mirrored version.
How do I resize, reshape, or copy a zone?+
  1. 1
Pick a shape: Choose oval or rectangle when drawing a Zone.
  2. 2
Resize: Select a zone to reveal resize handles, then drag to adjust its size.
  3. 3
Copy/paste: Copy a zone and paste it elsewhere on the field, or match its color to a defender's token color.
What are the Play Details fields on the side of the editor?+
  1. 1
Name & Type: Name the play and mark it offense, defense, or special teams — Type drives filtering everywhere else in the app.
  2. 2
Formation & Personnel: Free-text fields like "Gun Trips Right" and "11 Personnel". These power the formation filters athletes use in Study Mode and the tendency reports in Game Time.
  3. 3
Run / Pass: Classify the play as run, pass, or other so your self-scouting report can break down your run/pass split.
  4. 4
Coaching Points & Video: Key reads and progressions for athletes to study, plus a YouTube, Vimeo, or Hudl link (Coach plan or higher).
How do I save a formation to reuse across plays?+
  1. 1
Save as Formation: Lay out your personnel, then click Save as Formation, name it, and add optional notes.
  2. 2
Include routes or not: Check "Include routes, motion & blocking" to save the whole concept, or leave it off to save just the alignment.
  3. 3
Load Formation: Start a new play from Load Formation instead of placing every player from scratch.
How do I let athletes watch a play animate instead of a static diagram?+
  1. 1
Athlete animation: In the play editor, turn on "Athlete animation" so athletes see the play animate in real time in Study Mode instead of a still image.
How do I import a play from a whiteboard photo or drawing?+
  1. 1
Import from Whiteboard: On the Play Engine page, click Import from Whiteboard (marked BETA).
  2. 2
Upload or snap a photo: Upload a photo of a whiteboard, notebook sketch, or printed play, or take one with your camera.
  3. 3
Check the extraction status: If anything on the photo was unclear (a faint route, an ambiguous label), the import screen flags it as an issue so you know exactly what to double-check before saving.
  4. 4
Review & save: AI places players and routes onto an editable play — review, adjust anything, and save it like any other play.
How do I create a play with Voice to Play?+
  1. 1
Voice to Play: On the Play Engine page, click Voice to Play (marked BETA).
  2. 2
Describe the play out loud: Talk through the formation, routes, and assignments as if you were explaining it to a player.
  3. 3
Review & save: AI diagrams the play from your description — review and adjust it in the editor, then save.
How do I back up my plays or move them to another team?+
  1. 1
Export All: On the Play Engine page, click Export All to download every play as a single JSON file.
  2. 2
Select to Export: Or click Select to Export, tap just the plays you want, and export only those.
  3. 3
Import: Click Import and choose an exported JSON file to bring those plays into the team you're currently in.
Can I keep working without an internet connection?+
  1. 1
Keep working offline: The play editor keeps working with no signal — changes save locally and show "Saved offline — will sync automatically."
  2. 2
More than just the editor: On the mobile app, your plays and playbooks are cached locally, so you can browse and open them from the bench or a locker room with no signal, not just edit an already-open play.
  3. 3
Auto-sync: Once you're back online, offline edits sync automatically with no extra steps.
How do I turn on colorblind-friendly mode?+
  1. 1
Settings → Branding: Turn on Colorblind-friendly mode to switch routes, zones, and player colors to a colorblind-safe palette — it also adds distinct line styles so route type never depends on color alone.
  2. 2
Per-athlete override: Athletes can flip this on or off for themselves in Study Mode regardless of your team default.
The player circles are too small to read when I project a play — can I make them bigger?+
  1. 1
Settings → Branding: Under Accessibility, set Player token size to small, medium, or large.
  2. 2
Applies everywhere: The size you pick carries through the editor, thumbnails, printed pages, and what your athletes see — not just your own screen.

How do I change the order plays appear in a playbook?+
  1. 1
Drag to reorder: On the playbook's detail page, drag a play by its handle to move it up or down.
  2. 2
Order is what athletes see: The order you set is the order athletes page through in Study Mode, and the order plays print in.
  3. 3
Remove a play: Use the remove button on a play card to take it out of this playbook — the play itself stays in your Play Engine.
How do I print or export plays as a PDF?+
  1. 1
Print: From a playbook's detail page (or the Play Editor for a single play), click Print.
  2. 2
Set your options: Choose plays per page, portrait or landscape orientation, and white background instead of gray to save colored ink.
  3. 3
Filtered output: Only the plays matching your current filters are included in the PDF.
How do I share a playbook with a public link, and can I password-protect it?+
  1. 1
Open Share settings: On a playbook's detail page, click Share and turn on the share link.
  2. 2
Optional password: Add a password if you want to restrict who can open the link.
  3. 3
Copy link: Copy the link to send to parents, boosters, or anyone outside your roster — no account required to view it.

  2. 2
Update the fields: Change the name, description, season (e.g. "Fall 2025"), or team label (e.g. "Varsity", "JV").
  3. 3
Save: Changes apply immediately, including on any public share link that's already out.

  1. 1
Create Quiz: On the Quizzes tab, click Create Quiz and give it a name like "Week 1 Install Check".
  2. 2

  3. 3
Add questions: Open the quiz to build questions by hand, or generate them with AI.
How do I generate a quiz from a play using AI?+
  1. 1
Generate with AI: In the quiz builder, click Generate with AI (Coach plan or higher).
  2. 2
Set the parameters: Pick which plays to base questions on, how many questions, difficulty (easy, medium, hard), and an optional focus area like "routes" or "assignments".
  3. 3
Publish: Review the generated questions, then publish the quiz so athletes can take it and you can see per-player scores.
What question types can I use in a quiz?+
  1. 1
Multiple Choice: Write the options and mark which one is correct.
  2. 2
True/False: A quick check for rules and assignments.
  3. 3
Short Answer: Athletes type a response, graded against the expected answer you enter.

How do I add a route-drawing question to a quiz?+
  1. 1
Pick the type: Add a question and choose Route Drawing as the type.
  2. 2
Choose the play: Select which play the question is based on.
  3. 3
Pick the players: Choose whose routes the athlete has to draw. They're scored by proximity to the real route, not exact-match, so a close answer still earns credit.
How do I see performance stats for a quiz?+
  1. 1
Quizzes tab: Each quiz shows average score, pass rate, best score, and latest attempt at a glance, with team-wide totals across the top.
  2. 2
Athlete Results: Open a quiz and scroll to Athlete Results for a per-athlete table of score, questions correct, and when they finished.
  3. 3
Recent Attempts: The Quizzes page also lists the newest attempts across every quiz, so you can see who's been studying.
How do I see which plays my team keeps missing on quizzes?+
  1. 1
Open your Dashboard: Go to your Dashboard and find the "Where to Re-teach" card.
  2. 2
Review team-wide miss rates: Plays with a 40%+ miss rate across recent quiz attempts show up here, ranked worst first.
  3. 3
Drill into a play: Expand any play to see the individual questions athletes are missing, so you know exactly what to walk back through at your next practice.

Roster & Athletes

How do I add an athlete to my roster?+
  1. 1
Add Athlete: On the Team Roster page, click Add Athlete.
  2. 2
Fill in details: Enter the athlete's name, position, and jersey number — and, on a multi-team organization, which team they belong to.
  3. 3
Save: Save the athlete — they'll appear in your roster list and can be added to playbooks, quizzes, and film assignments.
Why do I need to confirm consent when adding an athlete?+
  1. 1
Consent checkbox: Adding an athlete requires confirming you have consent to store their info, since rosters can include names and contact details for minors.
How do I import my whole roster at once instead of adding athletes one by one?+
  1. 1
Import from CSV: On the Team Roster page, use Import to upload a CSV file instead of adding athletes one at a time.
  2. 2
Match the columns: Include name, position, and jersey number columns — on a multi-team organization, add a team column too so each athlete lands on the right roster.
  3. 3

How do athletes join and use Study Mode?+
  1. 1
Share your Athlete Access Code: Athletes go to the login page, choose the Athlete tab, enter their name and your Athlete Access Code — no email or account needed.
  2. 2
Study published playbooks: Once in, athletes can study any playbook you've published on any device, including tap-to-zoom play diagrams.
  3. 3
Take assigned quizzes: Athletes take quizzes you've published, and their scores report back to your dashboard automatically.
How do athletes find a specific play inside a playbook?+
  1. 1
Search: Athletes can search a playbook by play name or formation.
  2. 2
Filter: They can also filter by play type (offense, defense, special teams) or by formation.
  3. 3
Page through plays: Once a play is open, arrows step to the previous or next play in whatever list is currently filtered — and the diagram expands full-screen for reading routes up close.
Can athletes print a play to write notes on?+
  1. 1
Print from Study Mode: Athletes can print the play they're viewing.
  2. 2
My Notes lines: The printed page includes a blank "My Notes" section with ruled lines, so they can write their own reads and reminders by hand.

  2. 2
Watch and study: Each drill shows its category, coaching notes, any attached video, and any diagram you've drawn or animated for it.
  3. 3
Work on it independently: Athletes can review technique on their own between practices — no need to have you pull it up for them.

Practice Planner

How do I build a new practice plan?+
  1. 1
New Practice Plan: On the Practice Planner page, click New Practice Plan.
  2. 2
Set the basics: Name the plan, set the practice date, pick a duration (30 minutes up to 2 hours), and choose a focus — Full Team, Offense, Defense, or Special Teams.
  3. 3
Build the timeline: Add periods with a start time, length, activity name, and coaching details, then save.
How do I generate a full practice plan with AI?+
  1. 1
Set the basics: On New Practice Plan, set your practice length and focus, and describe your goals or theme for the day (e.g. "sharpen red zone offense, work on press coverage").
  2. 2
Pick your drills: Choose from your saved Drill Library — presets or your own drills.
  3. 3
Generate with AI: AI builds a full timed schedule with coaching cues, ready to print or share (Coach plan or higher).
How do I adjust a practice plan after it's been generated?+
  1. 1
Edit & Regenerate: Open the plan and use Edit & Regenerate to change the name, date, duration, focus, or goals.
  2. 2
Regenerate & Save: Regenerate to rebuild the timeline around your changes, or just edit periods directly if only one block needs fixing.
  3. 3
Print for the field: Print the plan so your staff has a paper copy on practice day.

Call Sheet

How do I build a game script by hand?+
  1. 1
New Game Script: Create a script, then name it (e.g. "Week 6 vs. Riverside") and set the game date and opponent.
  2. 2
Add plays in order: Build your play sequence one call at a time — the order you add them is the order you'll call them.
  3. 3
Add situational detail: For each call you can set formation, hash (L/M/R), down, distance, and coaching notes.
How do I generate a game script with AI?+
  1. 1
New Game Script: On the Game Script page, click New Game Script and fill in the opponent and date.
  2. 2
Describe your game plan: Write your offensive tendencies and goals — e.g. "establish the run early, attack cover 2 vertically, use motion to stress their linebackers."
  3. 3
Generate: Click Generate Game Script and AI drafts a situational call sheet from your existing plays (Coach plan or higher).
  4. 4
Adjust & save: Reorder, edit, or remove calls, then save your script for the sideline.
Can I revise a game script after generating it?+

Game Time

How do I track plays live from the sideline during a game?+
  1. 1
Open Game Time: Click Game Time in the sidebar — it opens in a new tab. Available on the Coach and Program plans (or for anyone with the Team Manager role).
  2. 2
Start Game: Enter the opponent (past opponents autocomplete as you type) and date, then click Start Game.
  3. 3
Tap athletes as they play: On the Participation tab, tap an athlete's name each time they take a snap. Use the Sort by control (Name, #, or Position) to arrange the roster however's fastest for you.
What are the three tabs in Game Time?+
  1. 1
Participation: Who played — tap athletes to count snaps for playing-time reporting.
  2. 2
Play Log: What you called on offense, and how it turned out.
  3. 3
Defense: Your defensive series — what you called, what the offense did, and the result.
  4. 4
All three stay live: Every tab keeps recording in the background no matter which one you're looking at, and Finalize captures all of them.
What's the difference between the Play Log and the Participation Tracker?+
  1. 1
Two separate trackers: Play Log records what you called and against what look, for tendency analysis. Participation Tracker records who played, for snap-count reporting. Each is finalized and printed separately.
What can I record about each play I call?+
  1. 1
The call: Pick the play from your catalog, plus the defense you saw.
  2. 2
The situation: Down, distance, hash (left, middle, right), and field zone (own territory, midfield, opponent territory, red zone).
  3. 3
The result: Tap Touchdown, Success, No Gain, Penalty, Interception, or Fumble — and log yards gained or lost.
  4. 4
On defense: The Defense tab uses its own results: Stop, Turnover Forced, Penalty (Opp.), Big Play Allowed, or Touchdown Allowed.
How do I see tendencies — what's working against a specific defensive look?+
  1. 1
Tag the defensive look: In the Play Log Tracker, tag each play with the defense you saw.
  2. 2
View tendencies: A live tendency strip shows breakdowns by defense faced, by your own play, by matchup (play vs. defense), and situationally by down & distance (e.g. "3rd & short").
How do I run a self-scouting report on my own tendencies?+
  1. 1
Open Self-Scouting Report: In Game Time, choose a single game or All games to analyze.
  2. 2
Read the breakdowns: You get run/pass split, top plays, formation and personnel tendencies, defenses faced, down & distance, hash, field zone, matchups, and explosive plays — plus a plain-English Strengths and Weaknesses summary.
  3. 3
Save or print: Save the report to reopen later from Saved Reports, or print it for your staff meeting.
How do I flag athletes who aren't getting enough playing time?+
  1. 1
Set the minimum: In Settings → Roster (or in Game Time's own settings), set a minimum plays-per-game number.
  2. 2
Live flagging: Athletes below that threshold are flagged live during the game so you can catch it before it's too late.
I can't read my screen in bright sun — is there a high-contrast mode?+
  1. 1
Outdoor: Tap the Outdoor toggle at the top of the tracker to switch to a high-contrast layout built for direct sunlight.
  2. 2
Stays on: Your choice sticks between games, so you don't have to set it every Friday night.
How do I finalize a game and print a participation report?+
  1. 1
Finalize Game: When the game is over, click Finalize Game and confirm — this locks in the play counts.
  2. 2
Print Summary: Click Print Summary to generate a branded Game Participation Report showing every athlete's snap count.
  3. 3
Works offline: Taps are saved locally if you lose signal on the sideline — the tracker shows Offline / Syncing / Synced status and catches up automatically once you're back online.

Film Room

What is Film Room?+
  1. 1
Draw & explain over film: Film Room lets you pull up a clip, pause it, and draw routes, arrows, coverage, and reads directly over the video while you talk your team through it.
  2. 2
Open it: Click Film Room in the sidebar — like Game Time, it opens as its own app in a new tab.
  3. 3
Save it for later: Anything you draw can be saved to your team's Film Library with a voice-over, so athletes can study the breakdown on their own.
How do I get a clip into Film Room?+
  1. 1
Upload a video file: Pick a video file off your device — this gives you the full toolset, including frame capture and clip recording.
  2. 2
Paste a YouTube link: Draw straight on a YouTube embed. Nothing is downloaded, so frame capture and clip recording aren't available for these — but your drawings can still be saved and replayed.
  3. 3
Record a clip: On desktop, share your screen or a tab to capture film you're playing yourself. This option is hidden on phones and tablets, where browsers don't support screen sharing.
What can I draw with in Film Room?+
  1. 1
Pen, Highlight, Arrow, Ref Line: The everyday marks. Arrows and ref lines can be dashed, and arrows can be curved for a route stem.
  2. 2
Circle, Zone, Player, Text: Circle a defender, shade a zone, drop an X or O player marker, or type a label anywhere on the frame.
  3. 3
More tools → Spotlight, Calibrate, Measure: Spotlight dims everything else on screen (draw it last). Calibrate a known distance, then Measure to show real yardage.
  4. 4
Width, color, undo, clear: Every tool has thin/medium/thick widths and a color picker, plus Undo and Clear in the corner.
Do my drawings disappear when the film starts playing again?+
  1. 1
Clear on play: With this on, marks fade a few seconds after you draw them rather than piling up on the film.
  2. 2
Keep on play: Text labels and zones have a "Keep on play (don't auto-clear)" option, so a formation name or coverage shade can stay up while the clip runs.
How do I step through film frame by frame or slow it down?+
  1. 1
Frame step: Step back or forward one frame at a time to catch the exact moment a read happens.
  2. 2
Playback speed: Drop the speed to 0.25x or 0.5x, or push it to 1.5x or 2x to move through a clip quickly.
  3. 3
Zoom & pan: Zoom up to 3x and pan around to get in tight on one matchup, then hit Reset to pull back out.
How do I record myself breaking down a clip?+
  1. 1
Record: On an uploaded or screen-captured clip, click Record and then walk through the film — your drawings and your voice are both captured into one take.
  2. 2
Stop and review: Click Stop, then Review take to watch it back. Discard and re-record if you want another pass.
  3. 3
Save Frame: You can also grab a still of the current frame with your marks on it, then download it from Snapshots.
How do I narrate a YouTube breakdown for my athletes?+
  1. 1
Record voice-over: While drawing over a YouTube clip, click Record voice-over and talk through it as you mark it up.
  2. 2
Narrate live, not after: Record while you're actually drawing — the marks are timed to your narration, so narrating afterward wouldn't line up.
  3. 3
Stop when done: Click Stop and you'll see "Voice-over recorded." Discard it if you want to try again.
How do I save a Film Room session so athletes can watch it?+
  1. 1
Save to Film Library: Click Save to Film Library from inside the session.
  2. 2
Title and notes: Give it a title like "Cover 3 rotation vs trips" and add notes on what to watch for.
  3. 3
Choose the audience: Share with the whole team, or pick specific athletes so a breakdown only goes to the players it's for.
  4. 4
Save: For an uploaded clip, the recorded take uploads. For a YouTube clip, your drawings and voice-over are saved and replayed over the original embed.
What does a saved YouTube breakdown look like when an athlete opens it?+
  1. 1
Marks replay in time: Your drawings appear and clear the same way they did live, animating as they were drawn.
  2. 2
Narration drives the pacing: If you recorded a voice-over it starts automatically and the marks follow it. Without narration, marks follow the video's position instead.
  3. 3
The athlete controls the video: Playback stays under the viewer's control rather than auto-pausing everywhere you paused, so they can rewind and re-watch a rep.
How do I add a clip to the Film Library without going through Film Room?+
  1. 1
Save Clip: On the Film Library page in the main app, click Save Clip.
  2. 2
Paste the links: Add a title, a video link (YouTube, Vimeo, or Hudl), and optionally a link to a recorded narration or breakdown.
  3. 3
Notes and audience: Add coaching notes and choose whether the whole team or specific athletes can see it.
  4. 4
Plan note: Film Library requires the Coach plan or higher.
How do athletes watch the film clips I've shared?+
  1. 1
Athlete Film Library: Saved clips show up in the athlete's own Film Library view, alongside Study Mode rather than instead of it.
  2. 2
They see what you assigned: Athletes only see clips shared with the whole team plus any assigned specifically to them, along with your notes and voice-over.

Drills

How do I add a drill from the built-in preset library?+
  1. 1
Browse Library: On the Drill Library page, click Browse Library to see 40+ built-in drill presets.
  2. 2
Add to your library: Pick a preset to add it to your team's drill library, ready to use in practice plans.
How do I create my own drill and attach a video?+
  1. 1
Add Drill: On the Drill Library page, click Add Drill.
  2. 2
Fill in details: Name the drill, choose a category (warmup, individual, group, team, special teams, conditioning, cooldown), and set a typical duration.
  3. 3
Notes and video: Write coaching notes and equipment needs, and paste a YouTube, Vimeo, or Hudl link so your staff can reference exact technique (video links require the Coach plan).
  4. 4
Attach a diagram image: Upload a diagram image of the drill setup (cone spacing, station layout) — it prints right on the drill card, so your staff doesn't need the video pulled up on the field to run it.
How do I draw a diagram for a drill instead of uploading an image?+
  1. 1
New Diagram: From a drill's detail page, open the diagram editor to draw the drill setup on a blank canvas instead of uploading a photo.
  2. 2
Place cones and players: Use the same kind of player and shape tokens as the Play Designer to mark stations, cone spacing, and starting positions.
  3. 3
Animate the drill: Add movement so the diagram plays back step by step, showing the drill in motion rather than a single static layout.
  4. 4
Save: Save the diagram to the drill — it prints on the drill card and shows in the athlete's Drills view, right alongside any video you've attached.

Wristband

How do I generate a printable wristband call card?+
  1. 1
Select plays: On the Wristband Builder page, search and select the plays you want on the card.
  2. 2
Arrange the card: Plays are numbered in the order you add them, matching how you'll call them on the sideline — reorder them under Play Order.
  3. 3
Print: Click Print Wristband Card, then print on card stock and cut along the dashed border.
How do I change the size or layout of a wristband card?+
  1. 1
Wristband size: Choose 4"×3", 4.5"×2.25", or 4.75"×2.75" to match your wristband sleeves — or set a custom width and height.
  2. 2
Columns per card: Two columns fits 8 plays per side, three columns fits 12.
  3. 3
Show play numbers: Toggle the call numbers on or off.
  4. 4
Include play diagrams: Leave diagrams on for a visual card, or turn them off for a compact numbers-and-names call sheet.

Settings & Billing

How do I customize my team's name, colors, logo, and banner?+
  1. 1
Settings → Branding: Update your team name and set primary and secondary colors, with a live preview.
  2. 2
Logo and banner: Upload a square logo and a wide banner image, plus a banner headline like "MASTER THE GRIDIRON".
  3. 3
Where it shows up: Your branding carries through your dashboard, your athletes' Study Mode home page, printed materials, and shared playbook links.
Where do I find my Athlete Access Code?+
  1. 1
Settings → Branding: Your Athlete Access Code is shown under its own card. Click the copy icon to grab it.
  2. 2
Share it with the team: Athletes enter it on the Athlete tab of the login page along with their name — that's the whole sign-in.
  3. 3
Generate a new code: Regenerate it if it gets shared outside your program. The old code stops working immediately.
How do I invite an assistant coach?+
  1. 1
Copy Staff Access Code: In Settings → Branding, click the copy icon next to your Staff Access Code.
  2. 2
Share the code: Send the code to your assistant coach — they enter it when creating their account (or use Join Staff on the login page) to join your organization.
  3. 3
Generate new Staff Access Code: If a code is compromised, click Generate new staff access code to replace it (the old code stops working).
What's the difference between an Assistant Coach and a Team Manager?+
  1. 1
Share your Staff Access Code: In Settings → Branding, share your Staff Access Code the same way you would for an assistant coach.
  2. 2
Choose a role on Join Staff: When the staff member joins, they choose Assistant Coach (full access) or Team Manager (scoped to just Team Roster and Game Time).
  3. 3
No plan restriction on the role itself: Team Manager is a lightweight role for parent volunteers or stat-trackers — it works regardless of your plan, even though Game Time itself requires Coach or Program.
How do I see or remove staff on my organization?+
  1. 1
Settings → Coaches: The Coaching Staff list shows everyone linked to your organization with their role and email.
  2. 2
Remove someone: Remove a staff member here when they leave your program.
  3. 3
Rotate the code: If several people have left, generate a new Staff Access Code in the Branding tab so the old one stops working.
How do I manage multiple teams, like Varsity, JV, and Freshman?+
  1. 1
Upgrade to Program: Multi-team management is available on the Program plan.
  2. 2
Add a team: Use the team switcher in the sidebar to add a new team (e.g. "JV") under your organization.
  3. 3
Switch teams: Use the same switcher to move between teams — rosters, playbooks, and quizzes are scoped to whichever team is active.
How do I see rosters and data across all my teams at once?+
  1. 1
Open the team switcher: On a Program-plan organization with more than one team, open the team switcher in the sidebar.
  2. 2
Select All Teams: Choose All Teams to view combined data across every team in your organization.
  3. 3
Pick a team when adding athletes: Since athletes belong to a specific team, you'll be asked to choose which team an athlete belongs to when adding one while in All Teams view.
How do I change my display name or password?+
  1. 1
Settings → Account: Update your Display Name here — it's what shows on the Coaching Staff list for the rest of your staff.
  2. 2
Change Password: Enter your current password and a new one of at least 8 characters, then confirm it.
  3. 3
Google accounts: If you signed in with Google there's no password on the account to change.
How do I delete my team or account?+
  1. 1
Settings → Account: Scroll to the bottom of the Account tab to the danger zone.
  2. 2
Confirm by typing the name: You'll be asked to type your team name exactly before deletion is allowed.
  3. 3
This can't be undone: Deleting removes your plays, playbooks, quizzes, and roster. Export your plays first if you want a backup.
How do I upgrade my plan or see what's included?+
  1. 1
Visit Upgrade: Click any "Upgrade" prompt in the app, or go to the pricing section on the homepage.
  2. 2
Compare plans: Free is permanent (limited plays/playbooks). Coach unlocks unlimited plays, playbooks, AI quiz generation, AI practice plans and game scripts, Film Library, and Game Time. Program adds unlimited coaching staff, multi-team management, and the All Teams view.
  3. 3
Choose monthly or annual: Annual billing saves roughly 30% compared to monthly on both paid plans.
How do I update my payment method, view invoices, or cancel my subscription?+
  1. 1
Open the Billing tab: Go to Settings → Billing to see your current plan and what's included.
  2. 2
Manage Billing: On the Coach or Program plan, click Manage Billing to open Stripe's secure billing portal — update your card, download invoices, or cancel.
  3. 3
Free plan: If you're on the Free plan, there's nothing to manage yet — upgrade first to unlock billing management.
I'm using the mobile app — how is upgrading different from the website?+
  1. 1
In-app purchase: On iOS/Android, upgrading goes through the App Store or Play Store instead of the website's card checkout.
  2. 2
Restore Purchases: If a purchase doesn't show up (e.g. after reinstalling), use Restore Purchases on the Upgrade screen.
